Using hand sanitizer is not a replacement for consistent and proper hand-washing. Hand sanitizer should be used when there is no access to soap and water, and should be used until you are able to get somewhere to properly wash your hands.
The CDC recommends that you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. If you are in a hurry, it can be easy to forget this, but it is important to ensure effective disinfecting.
